East
Nusa Tenggara province is a string of over five hundred
islands, many of them uninhabited, set like pearls in the
sparkling blue sea. The islands are nothing less than tropical
fantasies: pristine white beaches fringed with towering
coconut palms, spectacular coral reefs luring visitors to
explore their exotic marine life, and fascinating local
cultures welcoming guests with their warmth and color. Kupang,
on the island of Timor, is the province’s capital, a relaxed
waterfront town offering visitors an introduction to the
region’s culture and a comfortable base from which to begin
explorations.
Flores
Island - its name taken from the Portuguese word for flower
- is a stunningly beautiful destination, studded with volcanoes
and deep mountain lakes, and bordered by some of the best
beaches anywhere. Komodo Island is also a popular destination,
offering travelers a glimpse of one of the most fascinating
sights anywhere in the world: the Komodo Dragon, a giant
monitor lizard which grows up to four meters in length and
is the direct descendant of creatures that roamed the earth
half a million years ago.
