Loksado is a quiet, pleasant town nestled in the
foothills of the Meratus Mountains, to the northeast of
the province’s capital at Banjarmasin. The town is an
important market center for the surrounding region, and
visitors will be amazed at the colorful variety of
offerings available, from fresh mountain produce to
exquisite regional crafts.
Loksado’s accommodations
and eateries are simple but sufficient. Most travelers
use the town as a base for exploring the surrounding
villages, which are inhabited by indigenous peoples
practicing their age-old way of life virtually untouched
by the modern world. Trekking around Loksado is an
explorer’s dream. Paths wind through forests and cross
farmers’ fields, traversing mountain rivers across
swinging suspension bridges. The green hills are dotted
with caves and waterfalls and are home to a gorgeous
variety of flora and fauna.
From Loksado, travelers can
also arrange rafting adventures down the rivers, which
take one across frothing white water through jungles
teeming with exotic sights.
